The 2009 Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune Conjunction
One of the most remarkable and promising astrological features of 2009 is the Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction.

These planets form a tight triple conjunction in the late spring and summer of 2009 as each of them comes to a station (when their apparent motion as viewed from earth slows and then pauses before reversing direction) almost simultaneously. They'll be within two degrees of each other for an exceptionally long time, May 4 through August 4, at approximately 26 degrees of Aquarius.
How do these planets affect us?
Jupiter is the largest planet. Its energy expands our horizons, encouraging us to think optimistically and to plan and dream for the future. When it aspects another planet, especially by conjunction, it typically increases the energy of that planet, too.Chiron was not discovered until 1977, and astronomers have considered it a large asteroid, a comet and a small planetoid by turns. Astrologers have spent several decades learning its astrological meaning and function. We now know Chiron acts as a healing force in people's lives, bringing our emotional sensitivities to our attention so we can begin to transform pain into wisdom and contentment. Like the wise mythical centaur it was named for, who taught philosophy and medicine to the young Achilles, Chiron is a teacher and healer. Neptune has the most otherworldly energy of all the planets. It rules our dreams and ideals and encourages us to feel compassion for others. For those especially sensitive to its influence, it can bring feelings of mystical oneness with the universe.
What does the Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction mean for the world?
As Jupiter intensifies Chiron's healing energy and Neptune's compassionate idealism, especially with the conjunction occuring in reform-minded Aquarius, it is likely we will begin improving the way we get along together as nations and as individuals and the way we treat our natural environment. If we use the planetary energies of the Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction well, this summer is likely to bring peace in places where warfare now prevails, and to see important breakthroughs like a treaty limiting or ending the proliferation of nuclear weapons. We may also see important strides forward in our ability to live in a healthy balance with our environment; for example, greater use of solar power or the development of an affordable electric car.Of course, we must actively use any planetary energy in a positive way in order for it to manifest positively. When we don't, the universe tends to bring our attention to what we are doing wrong. Under Jupiter's influence, we sometimes act out of greed or overestimate our abilities, discovering the negative side of absorbing too much of something, from food to responsibilities. Chiron's energy requires us to face our fears and discover the blessings in our psychic wounds so they can be healed. If, instead, we try to hide from our pain, it only grows. Neptune's dreamy energy can get us in trouble if we lose ourselves in a cloud of self-indulgent, wishful thinking. None of us are perfect, so we are likely to see a few of these less desirable effects this summer, but I believe the positive potential is far stronger. Last year's Uranus-Saturn opposition prepared us to think and behave realistically. We have learned some big lessons about what happens when we don't: wars are easily begun but hard to end; reckless or dishonest spending can end in a painful economic crash; unthinking abuse of the planet's resources can alter the climate in frightening ways. I believe we are ready to use the Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction to become kinder and more thoughtful people and to bring important positive reforms to our world that will begin to heal our most serious problems.
What does the Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction mean to you personally?
If you have one or more planets in your chart at or near 26 degrees of Aquarius, Taurus, Leo or Scorpio, the triple conjunction is likely to have great meaning for you personally, because it will transit your birth planets by conjunction, square or opposition. Even if not, if you have planets at or near 26 degrees of another sign, you will probably still feel its energy in your personal life to a greater or lesser extent. You may also be personally affected if you have a close pattern of linked non-traditional aspects, such as a pattern of quintile, septile or undecile aspects that the triple conjunction transits, respectively, by quintile, septile or undecile. What area of your life will be affected depends on which of your birth planets the Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction transits, in which signs and houses in your chart the planets are located, and how strong a presence Jupiter, Chiron and/or Neptune have in your chart generally. Most important of all is how you decide to handle these planetary energies. Embrace their positive potential, and you may well look back on this summer as a wonderful turning point in your life.
